Temporary Files Folder

Temporary Files: Temp (.TMP) extension files or Temporary files are created to hold information about files that has been created temporarily. During certain operation, some files are created by the system to store data or services information or running processes information. But, as the work finishes, these files are not deleted and resulting in wastage of drive space and poor performance. Such files that are not used by the system are collected in a folder called Temp (or Temporary Folder). And, these files keep collecting unless you manually delete them.

Note: It is not always necessary the files that get stored in Temp folder have a .TXT extension. They could be some .docx file, .dll file, .exe files, .xml file, .thmx file, .msi file, .out file, .err file, .res file, .cmdline file, .exd file, .sql file, .log file, .cvr file, .txt file, empty folder, .bmp file, .png file, .jpg file, .hdmp file and many more.

Four main reasons, before creation of Temporary Files: -

Reason-1) When you are working on your system and your system shutdown unexpectedly due to power failure or hardware issue.

Reason-2) Some application creates files so as to maintain the state, but those files are never used in the future. In such cases, the system sends the files to Temp.

Reason-3) Temp files are usually files left over from a setup.

Reason-4) Sometimes the program / application is not responding. And, what we did? We forcefully shut down the application, which will have left out temporary files.
